This can be done right in Cali´s Google Data Center...

The state of Texas is offering Facebook Inc. $1.4 million from a business development fund to locate a new 200-employee sales and operations office in Austin. This comes on the heels of a recent announcement by Facebook, which has seen membership grow to more than 400 million worldwide, that a new data center will be opened in Oregon, employing 35 workers. The deal, announced Thursday by Gov. Rick Perry's office, asks the city of Austin to chip in $200,000 in development incentives to lure the Social Media giant.

Austin is one of several cities Facebook is considering for the office, which would be the social networking giant's first major office expansion outside of its headquarters in Palo Alto, California. Facebook has not revealed other cities in the running, but noted Austin offers a deep pool of technology workers.

The office would house sales support and customer service staff and risk management personnel, according to documents filed with the city of Austin. Facebook plans to add staff, with an average annual salary of $54,000, incrementally through 2014.

The company hasn't picked a location, but proposed leasing 20,000-square-feet of space in the first year and expand to up to 40,000-square-feet in the second or third year. The plan also includes about $3.1 million in capital improvements.

A press release from Perry, posted on the his very own Facebook page, announced financing would come through the Texas Enterprise Fund, which is used to attract businesses.

The Austin City Council will meet next week to formally hear a proposal to offer Facebook an estimated $200,000 in economic development incentives. A public hearing is scheduled for March 11.

Would you want Dallas to offer similar incentives to lure technology businesses to relocate here, possibly at the expense of other much needed city services?

Yesterday it was a Facebook outage, today Twitter users worldwide are being cautioned not to click on direct messages saying something to the effect of, "lol, this is funny," as they can lead to account details being stolen.

This phishing attack on Twitter tricks users into logging onto a fake Twitter page thereby giving their account details to hackers.

Direct messages Twitter users should be steer clear of and delete include:

  • Lol. this is me??
  • lol , this is funny.
  • ha ha, u look funny on here
  • Lol. this you??

Each of these messages is followed by a link similar to the below:

http://example.com/?rid=http://twitter.verify.bzpharma.net/login

where 'example.com' can vary. By clicking on the link, the fake Twitter page is activated and your account information has been comprimised.

If you have received one of these direct messages, delete it and if you have clicked on a link, similar to the above, after receiving a direct message, change your Twitter password immediately. Have you received one of these messages and if so, what did you do with it? Share your story below.
