Dear Class,
Whether we are ready for week 3 or not (I guess we will see), I have uploaded all material for week 3 on the course web-site. As usual, this includes the video lectures, practice problems, and the homework assignment.
In Coursera and in the offline world, this is a really important week. Let me explain. With the lectures of this week, we come close to the half-way point of the course. However, the (hard) deadline for the first homework is still one week away. So some of you might still be working on the distinction between flow time and flow rate while others will already be working with KPI trees and some lean tools.
Also, the due date of the first homework will divide up our community into (a) those that just want to watch the videos to get a general idea about the topic (b) those who do all assignments. Obviously, I would prefer you to be in group (b). But I do have to disclose that the homework assignments are rigorous and indeed harder than the in-video quizzes. I also am appreciative that each of you has his or her own motivation for being in the course and so, if you just want to come along for the ride and just watch the videos, you are more than welcome to do so.
Finally, I want to thank you for all the work that is going on in the forum. Given the number of students, we cannot provide you with a central help desk. The fact that most of the questions are answered from within the community is a real testimony for this type of learning. Keep it up!
